We constantly hear about how mobile computing has really taken off and surpassed the use of desktop computers. But the big question is: do we actually make the switch to mobile devices, or do we still keep a clunky desktop for the "important" stuff?
But I wonder how many others have made this transition?
I actually discussed this with my wife today. I shared with her my plan not to invest in another iMac in the future and instead rely on Macbooks (Air or Pro). My thinking is that there is no need to keep my desk occupied by a 21-inch iMac.
Sure, the big display can be awesome, but the screen on a Macbook is just as good - smaller alright, but just as good.
Before, I'd use the big iMac display to watch TV shows from iTunes. But now with the Apple TV box attached to the regular TV, I have an even bigger display, all HD, and TV shows from iTunes, such as the new season of Damages are a joy to watch there (Apple TV even in "standard definition" is still a minimum of 720pi, thus perfect HD quality).
I rarely work on my iMac in the office these days. Instead, you'll likely find me sitting in my zero-gravity chair (a therapeutic tool to prevent another sciatic episode like the one I suffered about two years ago) doing all my work (and personal) computing on a Macbook.
Others, from what I hear, are also increasingly switching to non-desktop solutions.
